Prayer for healing. My thanks to dear Glenmed for all his patience, helping me figure out how to upload a video, and more important, how to add text.

Watched the wonderful Karita Mattila doing this. Was keen to understand better what this music was saying. Schwarzkopf's recording is offered here with German and English subtitles. The English translation is not word-for-word. Instead, I tried to catch the scansion and some of the poetic imagery in Wagner's phrases. If any German speaker can suggest a correction or two, I will be most grateful.

Antonietta Stella and Franco Corelli 1963
Andrea Chenier by Umberto Giordano
The video of Stella and MDM doing this finale in the mid 1950s shows that she was a very fine stage presence. That and this audio show that she was also well capable of holding her own vocally with both of these magnificent tenors.

The Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni. 1994 recording.
A tribute to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and to Maestro Robert Shaw.
The magnificent intervention of Christine Brewer (soprano) soaring above the company only adds to this experience.

Audio Only. Fritz Wunderlich tragically died 1966, aged 36, from head injuries sustained from a fall on steps at a hunting lodge. He left us some of the finest tenor singing ever recorded (almost all in German). Too sad that we were denied more.
